Everyone dislikes wrinkles as it is a sign of aging. The firmness and elasticity of our skin declines with age causing wrinkles. Skin cells starts to get replaced more slowly and thickness of skin also decrease with the aging process.
Prolonged exposure to sun causes development of wrinkles. As we age, our outer layer of skin becomes thin. This allows easier evaporation of water from the cells causing dryness of skin. Added to it, our body cells get replaced lesser as we age. Elastin, hyaluronic acid and collagen of skin under goes changes causing loose skin to develop. Premature aging can also occur due to accidental exposure to sun. It is believed that exposure to sun is a major cause of premature aging.
Heredity and environmental factors can also contribute to natural development of wrinkles.
Our genes determine the aging process and development of wrinkles. Fair skinned people tend to develop wrinkles faster than others. Environmental factors as pollution and exposure to chemicals can strip the skin of natural beauty and glow.
Unfortunately, people with dry skin also tend to develop wrinkles. Dry skin leads to faster development of wrinkles than oily skin. Dry skin loose the moisture content causing bumps, creases and hollows. Rapid weight loss adds wrinkles as fat cells take longer to develop causing sagging of facial skin.
Smoking causes wrinkles. While smoking, the blood vessels undergo constriction. It causes diminished supply of nutrients and oxygen required for the skin. Exposure of body to passive smoke adds to free radicals in the body causing wrinkles. Pinching of cigarettes between the lips also cause reduced supply of oxygen to lips. Repeated reduced supply of oxygen and nutrition causes wrinkle to develop even on lips.
Facial expressions can also be another cause of wrinkles. Our skin looses elasticity as we age. Repeated expressive actions as anger can cause furrows on forehead. Smile lines develop around the eye and mouth. Our expressions begin with birth. But wrinkles and lines appear more prominent with age and repeated facial expressions.
Decline in hormone levels, inadequate sleep and improper diet are other factors that cause wrinkles. Cosmetic treatments can erase wrinkles, but results are just temporary.
